Name of Project: Strengthening Equity, Access and Quality of Education in Somalia (SEAQE)
Region(s): Galmudug, Banadir, Middle shabelle, Lower shabelle, Lower Jubba, Gedo and Baidoa.
Duration: January 2014 - December 2018
ADRA Somalia, through funding from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and ADRA Norway, recently began implementing an intervention aimed at strengthening equity, access and quality of education in Somalia. This programme will ensure that vulnerable children and youth, particularly girls and young women, those affected by conflict or rural/urban inequality, and those that are disabled, have access to relevant and inclusive education in Somalia.
The SEAQE programme work towards increased access, quality and equity in formal and non-formal education (NFE) within the targeted areas of Somalia. This project will focus on addressing a combination of supply and demand side constraints that underlie the large numbers of out-of-school children/youth. SEAQE will focus on getting all children and youth, no matter their needs, into appropriate formal and non-formal education systems and giving them improved and equitable learning opportunities. ADRA will have an integrated approach. For schools to be transformed into dynamic learning environments there need to be changes in the educational system as a whole, such as improving educational management, teaching skills, infrastructure and learning materials.
The Overall objective of the program is to increase education opportunities for poor and marginalised children, youth, women and their families, contribute to thriving, peaceful societies in Somalia by the end of 2018.
